The Go Giver - a modern day parable
By Graham Richards of Freelance Fundraiser
Every once in a while a book comes along that changes the way you think and act. A few weeks ago I came across a real gem, only 127 pages long, but so unique and refreshing in it’s message. I now feel the need to tell as many people as possible about this little book, just so you get the chance to read it as well. The Go-Giver is a parable. It is a parable aimed primarily at people in business, but what it has to say can equally be applied across all areas of life, family, friends, charity, etc. The basic story is about Joe, a struggling Go-Getter, who seems to be failing in his mission to become a truly successful businessman. It starts when Joe is facing a disastrous quarter end. His targets are falling short and he fears for his future in the company. It is at this point that he hears about Mr Pindar, one of the most successful businessmen of his generation. Mr Pindar lectures across the country about how to succeed. Would he also help Joe? Joe makes a phone call that will change him forever…but not in the way he expects! Over the next week Pindar takes Joe to meet several other people he has helped. What they share with Joe and what Joe discovers for himself is something so simple and yet so effective. It all comes down to “The Five Laws of Stratospheric Success”. OK, it sounds a bit corny, but wait until you’ve discovered them for yourself. This is a book that will change the way you think and change the way you relate to those around you. The message is something we all need to hear, especially in the self-centred societies we seem to exist in today. Essential reading! The authors: Bob Burg and John David Mann.
